When Can I Put Sunscreen on a New Tattoo?

Answered by Sude ErdemTattoo artist in Los Angeles

Wait until the tattoo is fully healed before applying sunscreen directly on it, usually around 2–3 weeks. Until then, keep it out of direct sunlight and cover it with loose clothing when possible.

Once healed, use a broad-spectrum SPF +50 sunscreen to help prevent fading and protect the tattoo long-term.
