Can I Get Tattooed Over a Mole?

Answered by Sude ErdemTattoo artist in Los Angeles

I generally do not tattoo directly over moles. Moles need to remain visible so any future changes in their size, shape, border, or color can be noticed and monitored.

Some changes in a mole can be an early sign of a skin problem, so covering it with tattoo ink can make those changes harder to see. Instead, I design around the mole and leave it visible while keeping it integrated naturally into the composition.

If a mole is new, changing, or looks unusual, I recommend having it checked by a dermatologist before the tattoo appointment.
