Yes, many dark tattoos can be covered without laser removal. However, cover-up tattoos give us much less freedom with the new design because the main priority is successfully hiding the existing tattoo.

The final concept, size, composition, and placement of darker areas all need to be planned around the old tattoo. After the main cover-up session, additional short color-refresh/lightening sessions will be needed about every 4 weeks to gradually improve the coverage and final result.
